Tankardstown House – A great base for attending some unique horse racing events

tankardstown-house-hotel-01Tankardstown House, Slane, Co. Meath is only a hop, skip and a jump to one of Ireland’s most unusual horse racing courses – the famous (or infamous) Bellewstown, Co. Meath.  This year the two festivals run on 30 June – 2 July and the 24th and 25th August.  If you have never gone to this Course then go for the experience alone.  The festival is the antithesis of the more posh courses such as Punchestown or Ascot.  If I remember correctly the course takes the horses out of sight of the stand which always adds to the excitement by not knowing what’s happening!  It is a fun event in every sense of the word and an event where you will definitely get to know the locals.   For information and details of the two upcoming events visit Bellewstown Races.  Laytown Races

Even more out of the ordinary are the Laytown Races held on a fabulous beach along the short narrow coastline of Co. Meath.  The Laytown Races occupies a unique position in the Irish and English racing calendar being the only race event run on a beach under the rules of the Turf Club. The date for your diary for the 149th event is
Tuesday, 13th September and more information and details of the races are on the Laytown Races website .  As the crow flies Laytown beach is not too far from Tankardstown House; the ideal location to base yourself and avail of some special spa treats whilst there.  Their Brabazon Restaurant is a must for foodies and regarded as one of the finest restaurants in Co. Meath.
